Stop Acting Like A Child

I know that you have heard this story before. It is one that Jesus tells a couple of times, so it is a concept that Jesus wants us to understand.

Stop and think for a minute. When you think of a child, what comes to your mind? If you were to ask me, a child is usually happy and care-free. They have a natural curiosity for life. They are quick to forgive and make up. They do not worry about life, they live in the moment. These are just a couple that come to my mind, I am sure that you could add to mine.

Take your list, and now transfer that to your life? Do you display those traits? Jesus tells us to have the attitude of a child, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Those are some pretty strong words, aren’t they?

I will share with you where I am trying to let the child out in me again. Maybe you will be able to identify with me.

I personally need to have a deeper curiosity for Jesus and the Bible. I need to stop thinking like I know that or this, and really want to understand and question everything. A child needs to know everything. Have you ever gotten into a conversation about the moon with a child? (Something so simple right?) You know how the conversation goes: Why does the moon smile? Well Johnny, it seems to smile, but actually those are craters that look like a smile. Oh, OK….. What are craters? Well Johnny, craters are made from meteorites. Oh, OK….. what are meteorites? You get the picture? We need to have the same kind of curiosity for Jesus.

I need to stop worrying about my future and what is going to happen, how the bills are going to be paid, are we going to make enough money this month. When was the last time you heard a child asking if we were going to have enough money for food this month? A child puts all their trust into you, they do not worry about the future, they live today, the moment. A BIG lesson for me.

Have you ever watched kids when they are playing? They do fight and argue, but once they find an adult and tell their side of the story. The adult tells them to make up. Both children say they are sorry, then 5 minutes later they are best friends again. This is huge for us. We need to move forgiveness from our heads to our hearts, as Jesus commands us.

So, if anyone ever tells you to stop acting like a child, just smile and know that you are that much closer to the Kingdom of Heaven.

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” ~ Matthew 18:1-4

God Is Always With You

God Is Always With You

Isaiah 41:10, 13
Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

For I, the LORD your God,
hold your right hand;
it is I who say to you, “Fear not,
I am the one who helps you.”

Thought for the Day
I am sure you have heard the story of Joseph, how he was sold into slavery, then thrown into prison. There are a couple of thoughts that I have, these are very important for you to understand if you are to receive all of the Lord’s blessings He has for you.

In life you can do everything right, follow God, live a Godly life, and still end up in “Life’s prison”. Joseph may have been a little cocky in his young age, but surely did not deserve to have his brothers turn on him and be sold to be a slave. He also could have easily slept with Potiphar’s wife, but he chose to do the Godly thing and run, he ended up in prison.

Life is what you make of it. Joseph, if anyone, had every right to be angry and bitter towards God. After all, he did the right thing, and this is what “Doing the right thing” landed him; in prison. Joseph instead accepted where God had him. I can imagine it is not where Joseph thought he would have been, but he knew God was in control. Wherever you are in your life, whatever your situation, GOD IS WITH YOU. When Joseph was a slave, GOD WAS WITH HIM (v39:2) When Joseph was in prison GOD WAS WITH HIM (v39:21,23) Let me say this again, wherever you are, GOD IS WITH YOU, and if God is with you, you are blessed, all you need to do is accept His blessings

Are You Excited To Be A Christian?

Focus Scripture
13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!
Your incense is detestable to me.
New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations-
I cannot bear your evil assemblies.

14 Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts
my soul hates.
They have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them.

15 When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even if you offer many prayers,
I will not listen.
Your hands are full of blood;

16 wash and make yourselves clean.
Take your evil deeds
out of my sight!
Stop doing wrong,

17 learn to do right!
Seek justice,
encourage the oppressed.
Defend the cause of the fatherless,
plead the case of the widow.

Thought for the Day
When you read this, you might think to yourself that this was written long ago for the people of Israel. But was it? Can’t you see GOD saying this to our culture? I cannot bear your corrupt churches. When you spread your hand out in prayer, I will not listen. Your hands are full of gossip, lies, jealously, and hatred. Sounds like verses that could apply to 8 out of our 10 dying churches in America.

It is so easy to get in a routine. It is easy to loose sight of Jesus’ vision for us. We live in a world where we are stretched out everyday. We have to constantly fight what society is tell us. Watch out for #1 or maybe, It is a dog eat dog world. It is easy to let satan in the middle of our church and let him start to pick it apart bit by bit. Soon, after fighting all this, you may find yourself going through the actions, church and worship become empty and meaningless.

I believe that we all need to do a heart check every month or so. Make sure that we are still excited, if not, what will make you excited? Are you just going through the motions at church? If so, what will make you become more involved?

Are you letting personal feeling; jealousy, anger, and bitterness interfere with your relationships at church? If so, what will it take for YOU to mend them? I am sure that you could come up with a few of you own. I know that I can.

So, when was your last heart check, how did you score?

Thought for the Day
This concept is one that I have struggled with in the past. Well….. to be honest, it is still a hard one for me. I am getting better, I find the closer I come to Christ, the less this world appeals and has to offer me. So let’s take a look at what GOD is commanding us.

First, we are to keep our eyes and thoughts upward. This is not easy, because we live on this planet, and the things of this earth appeal to us. Let’s face it, we have to have money to live and function. Money brings some sort of a short lived, empty happiness. Plus, alot of the pleasures of this earth look appealing, sex, drugs, and alcohol to name a few, but these are empty. Some days it is much easier to be mean and hurtful to people, then to bite your tongue and build people up.

A lot of these acts that we discussed are the ways of a sinner. Some days when I am tired, and a little discouraged, the sinful ways look pretty nice. I sometimes get envious of how easy these people have it, having no moral rules to live by, it seems too easy. But, I am a warrior, so I tighten up my belt, pray, and continue to fight the good fight.

So then, when one of these wicked sinners falls, we are told not to gloat, or be happy, or think, HA! You deserve what you get! Then if that is not hard enough, we are told to be nice to them, and provide for them when they are in need. Are you sure that this is right, maybe this is one area that GOD really did not mean this? Right?

WRONG! This is exactly what we are to do. We need to be the light of this world. Yes, sin looks and is fun, that is why it is called a temptation. But, sin is short lived and VERY EMPTY! It brings sadness and death. There are a couple of things that we need to remember:
Our joy and happiness are in heaven with Jesus, not here. We are just visiting here, this is not our home, so of course we do not feel at peace here.
Revenge is the LORDS, PERIOD!

I would guess that most of these “Sinners” are very lost and unhappy. They may have forgotten to be “Nice.” You may be the only ray of Christ’s light that they may experience, they are on their way to hell, to spend an eternity with satan. NO ONE deserves that punishment, we MUST rescue them.

Commit Yourself To The Lord

Commit Yourself To The Lord

Commit Yourself To The Lord

Commit Yourself To The Lord

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. The LORD works out everything for his own ends even the wicked for a day of disaster. – Proverbs 16:3-4

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. – Proverbs 16:9

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. – Proverbs – 19:21

Thought for the Day
Stop for a minute and think of how many decisions that you make in one day? Hundreds…..maybe thousands? I would bet that a large portion of your decisions would be quick, split second decisions. What am I going to wear? What am I going to eat? What TV program should I watch?

On the other hand I would guess that you make some decisons that might require more thinking than just a split second. In making these decisions you might try and weigh the outcome of the decision. What happens if I choose this way, or that way????? Stop and think for a minute, how many of those decisions do you wish you would have chose differently, so that the outcome would have been different? I know that I have made TONS to decisions that I wished I could have changed.

I know that Christ cares about every decision that you make. He may not be so concerned what shoes you wear, but He wants to see you make the best decisions for your life. He WANTS to bless you. So knowing that Christ wants to bless you, how many of you give Him the chance to bless you?

Alot of decisions that we make, do not have to be decided right them. We have time on our side, but we feel that we have to quickly decided right now. Why is that? Maybe we feel better when we can check that off our list of things to do?

As the verse say above, if you commit to what you are going to do for the Lord, He will make your plans succeed. You see if you included Jesus, He can direct you, or change events in your life to help you make a better decision. Jesus has all the events lined up to make you a sucess, you just need to ask Him to be apart of them.

Deuteronomy 14:22, 28-29, 15:4-6, 10-11 NIV

22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.

28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

4 However, there should be no poor among you, for in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you, 5 if only you fully obey the LORD your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today. 6 For the LORD your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.

10 Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. 11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

Thought for the Day

We miss this as believers. Can you imagine if every believer gave 10% or more in tithes and offerings to God? Can you imagine the events that would start to take place in our world? Everyone who wanted a Bible would have one. The poor would be cared for, missions would explode, as a result the rapture might happen more quickly. God has said, when all have heard…… then is the time.

My family has witness this first hand. We were in TIGHT financial shape the last couple of years. But, we never stopped giving 10% to the Lord. There were sometime we did not have the money, but GOD ALWAYS PROVIDED. Every month we had enough, plus a little extra. Today, after a couple of years have passed, God is Blessing our business and personal lives beyond our imagination. Something strange has taken place in my heart, now I work for Christ. Money for me, doesn’t matter, what matters now is how much can I give Him this month?

For awhile, giving to God was boring. I would just drop the money into the offering plate and that was it….. you saw the monthly church statement. Do not get me wrong, you need to support the church you attend, but giving can be EXCITING. Here are some of the ways that we have gotten the entire family involved. We support a missionary, we send e-mails and hear about their progress. We also support children in Africa through World Vision. We bring Bibles into our house, and mail them out to countries where it is illegal to be found with a Bible. It is kind of our “James Bond” Bible adventure. You never know, our finger prints could be traced back to us. 🙂 Da Daa Da Daaaaaaa  (James Bond Theme Music)

There is one other point that I wanted to make, in the passage above, God points out several times that if we tithe’ as He commands, “God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to”. I leave you with the lyrics from one of my favorite Christian Artists; Todd Agnew. When you read the words, does in make you feel a little uncomfortable?

By Todd Agnew

“A poor man on the corner I could give to You by buying him lunch

But I rarely think about it ‘Cause I got a little but it’s not that much

And I pray Lord won’t You help me

Give me a little bit more for myself

And You say Child won’t you let me

Take all that you got and give you a little real wealth

And I don’t know what You want, what You see in my life

And I don’t know what You mean, how You could be glorified

I’m not too sure about this idea of sacrifice

What You mean by mercy, mercy in me

Your mercy in me

A young girl in an old house

Three kids and another on the way

She’s in desperate need of some new clothes

But I keep my old ones and tell her I’ll pray for her

But Your heart breaks for those kids

And that child of a mom who’s one of Your own

When a few gifts and a little time

Is another crown I could lay at the feet of Your throne”

 Closing Prayer

My Heavenly Father,

It is hard to give you control of my money. Money here on earth is security, earthly security. I know that my true security was made when You died for my sins. Jesus please help me and give me the strength to allow you to control my money, Please open my eyes to those around me that need help. I love you Jesus!

In Your Name I pray, Amen

Are You Missing Gods Blessing?

Are You Stuck In A Rut?

Insight Into the Scriptures

Today we start Deuteronomy. The author of Deuteronomy is Moses and was written around 1407 BC. Moses and the Israelites are poised at the east side of the Jordan, in view of the Promised Land; Canaan. Deuteronomy takes a moment to remind the people how faithful God had been to them, and to encourage them.

As I was reading today’s chapters I could not help to think that the people I was reading about were children. But, in fact these were grown men and women acting like children in front of God.

As I was reading the introduction into Deuteronomy, the Life Application Bible gave a great key verse for this chapter, and I thought that I would share it with you.”Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.” – Deuteronomy 7:9

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 1:29 – 36

29 Then I said to you, ‘Do not be in dread or afraid of them. 30 The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, 31 and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ 32 Yet in spite of this word you did not believe the LORD your God, 33 who went before you in the way to seek you out a place to pitch your tents, in fire by night and in the cloud by day, to show you by what way you should go.

The Penalty for Israel’s Rebellion

34″ And the LORD heard your words and was angered, and he swore, 35 ‘Not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land that I swore to give to your fathers, 36 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He shall see it, and to him and to his children I will give the land on which he has trodden, because he has wholly followed the LORD!’

Think n Grow

Deuteronomy is the start of a new generation of Israelites. If you remember, God was so fed up with the older generation, He told them that none of them would enter into the Promised land. Deuteronomy is a history lesson for the newer generations of Israelites; their successes, and failures.

This is the thought that came to mind as I was reading the text today; are you stuck in a rut? Are you stuck in committing the same sin over and over again, and just can’t seem to enter out of it? As you will read, it seems like the Israelites kept on committing the same sin over and over again. Notice how many of God’s blessings they missed out on.

God wants the best for you, He wants to bless you, but He does need your trust and obedience to the few laws that He put into place for your own protection. If you believe that you are stuck in a rut of sin, you need to put your life into 4 wheel drive and get out of the rut. Getting out will be different to everyone. To some it might be digging in God’s word more, to some maybe personal accountability, to some getting involved in church, maybe you just need to reach out to another believer. Whatever motivates you, you need to move out of your rut and into God’s blessings.

Closing Prayer

My Heavenly Father,

Thank you Father for the many blessings You graciously give to me everyday. Thank You Father for listening every time I pray.

Father I know that we are all sinners, but I want so much to do good for You. I pray that You will give me the strength to step out of my sinless nature and be more like You. Please help me to always remember what I need to strive for and that is faith in You!

I love You!!

In Your Name I pray, Amen

Insight Into the Scriptures

At this point in our readings, God is getting His people ready to enter into Canaan. He outlines it’s borders to Moses.

After 40 years of wandering in the desert, God is ready to give to His children what He promised their ancestors; Canaan. God then divides the land and appoints leaders, one from each tribe. These men did not volunteer their services, God knew they were good and fair leaders. If you want to be used by God, He knows your heart and your intentions, if they are pure and you have an open mind, you are going to be used by God.

Scripture Reading Numbers 34:1- 13 Boundaries of the Land

1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2″Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders), 3your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of the Salt Sea on the east. 4And your border shall turn south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to Hazar- addar, and pass along to Azmon. 5And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea.

6 “For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its coast. This shall be your western border.

7 “This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to Mount Hor. 8From Mount Hor you shall draw a line to Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at Zedad. 9Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at Hazar- enan. This shall be your northern border.

10 “You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. 11And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east.

12 And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.”

13 Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe.

Thought for the Day

I have always had a dream of living by the Ocean, but I thought it was an unobtainable dream, their was no way I could afford or find it. (Notice how I said the word I). Anyway, Kim and I started looking for houses, and we shied away from the coastal cities thinking it was the impossible.

This situation of the Israelites not taking what was rightfully theirs stuck in my mind. So, we started looking on the Coast. When we started looking I did not put a limit on God, and in a way I was excited to see what He could/would do for us. To make a long story short, we found the perfect house, within minutes to the Ocean, plus God gave us the lot of land next to our house, something I was not expecting! We could tell this was God blessing us, our realtor who is a non believer was amazed, he stated this never happens. (He does not know my Jesus) 🙂

In the readings for today God is giving His children the Promised Land. The size of the land portrays God’s generosity. But they only took 10% of what God gave them. Why would anyone only take 10% of what God gave them? There are a few reasons the Israelites missed out on God’s blessings; Sin, disobedience, lack of faith, lack of trust, fear of the unknown.

I know that we miss out on God’s blessings for us for some or all of the reasons listed above. God wants to give us more than we could ask or think of, but we limit our blessings. In your life, do not limit God, do not say to yourselves, “There is no way that it could ever happen”. We are talking about God, here. Nothing is impossible with Him. Expect alot from God, try and open every door, some will never open, but there are going to be some that will open, and inside of that door will be more than you ever could expect. Never limit God, He knows no limits.

Closing Prayer

My Heavenly Father,

Thank You Father for all You do for me and those I watch around me. I see You working all over, not just in my life and that is so awesome to watch. Father I pray that You will help me to have a God sized vision, and the faith to know that You are more than capable. Thank You Father for giving me those things that I really don’t deserve and not giving me the things I do.

I Love You!!

In Your Name I pray, Amen
