Let God Fight Your Battles

Insight into ScriptureDeut 21-23
In verses 21:18-21 Moses speaks of stoning a mother’s and father’s son for “Gluttony and drunkenness”. The meaning of the text is that the son is beyond reform.

In verse 22:8 Moses speaks of a parapet on a house or a roof. Since most roofs were considered living spaces. A parapet was a lip that would aid in a person from falling off the roof.

Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 20:1-4, 8 ESV
“When you go out to war against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own, you shall not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. 2 And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people 3 and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, 4 for the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’
8 And the officers shall speak further to the people, and say, ‘Is there any man who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, lest he make the heart of his fellows melt like his own.’

Thought for the Day
As you are reading the Bible, you will come across many promises like this….. “The Lord will fight your battles”. When you read these you must realize that these promises belong to the people who are truly dedicated to Christ, and do their best to follow Him. As we have read in the chapters before, Moses told the Israelites that they must choose between a blessing or a curse.

My son would read these verses and think to himself that he is going to win all of his battles, that is not true. The key phrase that he used was “His battles” When you are in Christ, it is the Lord’s battle, when you spend quality time with Him, you will know what His battles are and what are not his battles.

If you are in Christ, these verses are very promising. Whether you are doing battle with satan, or you are facing a situation that you feel can not be won. If you are in Christ, it is already won! Christ has gone out before you and paved your way to victory. The hard part for us is to have the faith, to take the step into battle. Our eyes can only see earthly things, they can not see the spiritual that is going on around them. One of my favorite passages is where Elisha asked God to open the eyes of his servant, so he could see what was really going on around him.

16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”17 And Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
18 As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, “Strike these people with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness, as Elisha had asked. – 2 Kings 6:16-18

Isn’t that a neat story.

Maybe you are going into battle today, maybe today is not your day. But, when you do go, remember that the Lord has gone out before you. Remember the story of Elisha and what his servant could not see. Take a moment right now, look around you, can you see all the angels and chariots that are waiting to move when you do? 🙂

Closing Prayer
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for fighting my battles. I know that there were battles that were won, that I did not even know where going on. You fought them alone for me. Thank You! Please Jesus strength my faith so that I can boldy walk into battle with you. I love you Jesus!
In Your Name I pray,
Amen

Insight Into the Scriptures

At this point in our readings, God is getting His people ready to enter into Canaan. He outlines it’s borders to Moses.

After 40 years of wandering in the desert, God is ready to give to His children what He promised their ancestors; Canaan. God then divides the land and appoints leaders, one from each tribe. These men did not volunteer their services, God knew they were good and fair leaders. If you want to be used by God, He knows your heart and your intentions, if they are pure and you have an open mind, you are going to be used by God.

Scripture Reading Numbers 34:1- 13 Boundaries of the Land

1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2″Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders), 3your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of the Salt Sea on the east. 4And your border shall turn south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to Hazar- addar, and pass along to Azmon. 5And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea.

6 “For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its coast. This shall be your western border.

7 “This shall be your northern border: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to Mount Hor. 8From Mount Hor you shall draw a line to Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at Zedad. 9Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at Hazar- enan. This shall be your northern border.

10 “You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. 11And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east.

12 And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.”

13 Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe.

Thought for the Day

I have always had a dream of living by the Ocean, but I thought it was an unobtainable dream, their was no way I could afford or find it. (Notice how I said the word I). Anyway, Kim and I started looking for houses, and we shied away from the coastal cities thinking it was the impossible.

This situation of the Israelites not taking what was rightfully theirs stuck in my mind. So, we started looking on the Coast. When we started looking I did not put a limit on God, and in a way I was excited to see what He could/would do for us. To make a long story short, we found the perfect house, within minutes to the Ocean, plus God gave us the lot of land next to our house, something I was not expecting! We could tell this was God blessing us, our realtor who is a non believer was amazed, he stated this never happens. (He does not know my Jesus) 🙂

In the readings for today God is giving His children the Promised Land. The size of the land portrays God’s generosity. But they only took 10% of what God gave them. Why would anyone only take 10% of what God gave them? There are a few reasons the Israelites missed out on God’s blessings; Sin, disobedience, lack of faith, lack of trust, fear of the unknown.

I know that we miss out on God’s blessings for us for some or all of the reasons listed above. God wants to give us more than we could ask or think of, but we limit our blessings. In your life, do not limit God, do not say to yourselves, “There is no way that it could ever happen”. We are talking about God, here. Nothing is impossible with Him. Expect alot from God, try and open every door, some will never open, but there are going to be some that will open, and inside of that door will be more than you ever could expect. Never limit God, He knows no limits.

Closing Prayer

My Heavenly Father,

Thank You Father for all You do for me and those I watch around me. I see You working all over, not just in my life and that is so awesome to watch. Father I pray that You will help me to have a God sized vision, and the faith to know that You are more than capable. Thank You Father for giving me those things that I really don’t deserve and not giving me the things I do.

I Love You!!

In Your Name I pray, Amen
